I completed my first overnight sail in January this year, twenty-one and a half hours to sail 100nm from Fremantle to Quindalup. We left at 5am on the 17th and arrived at 2.30am on the 18th. Colin and I did two-hour shifts, both of us spending our "off watch" time kipping in the cockpit since the autohelm wasn't working. I handled rough and smooth, though Colin was at one point watching the moon swing from over the stern to right angles with the boat, but he figured he'd keep quiet and see how long it took me to correct. I was trying Colin's 'minimalist' method of steering, apparently not all that successfully!
