Dampier Archipelago, Aug 6 - 13
Dampier, Aug 6 - 9 360nm, 79hr sail
Lagrange Bay (Bidyadanga), Aug 3 - 4 60nm 9.25hrs
Dampier, Aug 6 - 9 300nm, 52hrs
After 3 days and 2 nights of high seas we finally reached Dampier. From Broome we overnighted at Lagrange Bay (Bidyadanga) then went straight through to Dampier. I managed to spill every meal and drink I had, like a toddler on a rampage, and acquired bruises in places I didn’t even know would bruise!. That’s what a 30 knot breeze up the rear with complicating tides does to the sea!!

Flying Foam Passage, Aug 9 - 10 15nm, 3hr sail
The locals told us of an aboriginal painting of a thylacine a few bays over from the mooring, and gave us "bush instructions" to find it. After some intrepid exploration, including eating oysters off the rocks and traipsing up the dry river bed carpeted by scratchy spinifex, we came up short. (Spinifex and dried creek beds, harsh on the legs and feet even when you’re well prepared in Aussie bushwalking gear of thongs and shorts!). Later, in consultation with Google Earth, Colin decided we were in the wrong bay. Well, that’ll do it!

West Lewis Island, Aug 10 - 13 15nm, 3hr sail
The wind blew up early this morning, so taking the SUPs for a spin or looking for the thylacine in the correct bay were not good options. We get a late start and sail to West Lewis Island where we stay for 3 days as the wind is relentless. It’s kind enough to let up in the evenings though, so we can have cocktail hour in a glass off, and Geoff and I can SUP to shore to get oysters off the rocks. We end up with well over 3 dozen. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted oysters so good!!
