East Wallabi Island, Abrolhos (almost) 135nm, 40hr sail
Geraldton 50nm, 15hr sail and 1hr tow
Long story short we had muck in the fuel tank (stirred up by the constant rough motion whilst motor-sailing), and no amount of attempts to fix the problem worked long enough to get us that last bit of the way. It was too dangerous to attempt to sail to a mooring in the dark, so Colin looked at me with resigned disbelief and said “Looks like we’re sailing to Geraldton”. It was 10pm.
Unfortunately the easterly we’d been hoping for all the way south sprang up just when we needed a southerly (Colin had strong words to say to Huey, God of wind and waves) so it was slow going but a MUCH more comfortable sail. At 1pm Saturday we rendezvoused with Geraldton Sea Rescue, who rafted up to us and towed us to the jetty at the Batavia Coast Marina. By 2pm we were safely tied up awaiting a diesel mechanic, kindly organised for us by my Aunty's friend Wendy, and beginning the process of drying out the bedding and everything else that got wet.
