This is how the haul out went:
Sunday
Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
We thanked Huey we’d hauled out on Thursday because the rain started in earnest early in the morning and didn’t look like letting up. Despite Colin’s information the rain was to get heavier throughout the morning, I did my own research - by looking outside when there was a break in the downpour - and hence got rather wet whilst dropping the anchor and hoisting up the dinghy. I ended up fashioning a poncho out of plastic bag, which kept me dry but is unlikely to set a new trend.
Having done all we could given the weather, we picked up the washing and, because it felt a little cold, I draped it all over our room in the hopes it would be fully dry by the time we returned it to the boat.
With the incessant rain we thought our plans for stowing the dinghy were thwarted, but there was a brief reprieve after lunch when we managed to pack it away and get the washing back on board before the skies let loose again. There were immobilised flying ants all over the boat when we arrived, and I spent time trying to save the ones on their backs whose wings were stuck to the deck, but I don’t think many made it out of there before the next cloudburst.
The lifting didn’t stop for the weather, and the haul outs continued at a steady pace regardless, but all the contractors declined invitations to meet us on the boat because it was a bit wet, so we suctioned the last of the vacuum bags, and all that was left was for Colin to meet with three of the contractors in the morning.

- The launch in reverse, hauled out and parked in the shipyard. As one of the guys lifted the cradle a kitten dashed out and ran across the yard to find a safer place to hide.
- Removed our luggage and the dirty washing using the block and tackle at the stern that we hoist and lower the dingy motor with
- Vacuum packed linens and clothes
- Took the dirty washing to the laundry
