A long day of motoring got us to this 'landlocked' inlet on the northern tip of Astipálaia where we planned to sit out forecast strong winds. How an inlet can be landlocked remains a mystery to me, but so the Cruising Guide says.
Though it's not much to look at Vathí held many delights. The first came with bells on, many bells, as lines of goats and sheep traipsed down the hillside. Later a fine looking rooster piped up, followed by dogs barking, hens clucking (the "I've laid an egg" song), a cat squealing (chased off by the dog) and a couple of donkeys in the mix. A symphony to our ears!
As much as I love my feathered friends someone needs to tell these roosters they're not supposed to crow until sunrise. I swear it was the middle of the night when they started, and I'm a girl who needs my sleep! I'm pretty sure they woke the goats too because it was still dark when they started tinkling on the hillside. I might have to rethink that retirement plan of a rural home with chooks and goats and sheep. Maybe I'll get snakes and lizards instead, though rural homes usually come with those included.
In our two days on anchor it was always too windy to launch the dinghy so unfortunately I have only photos taken from the boat.
