Thomson Bay, Rottnest Island
Friday March 26 - Sunday March 28 10nm, 2hrs
Departed Royal Perth Yacht Club, Fremantle Annexe, 1245hrs
The journey begins... Due to foreseen (that's right) circumstances of the viral variety, Colin and I decided to leave Loch Fyne Lass on the hard in Greece and revisit the Kimberly Region, a stunning part of northern Western Australia. We previously explored this area in 2014 (see www.fatbluesky.net), and we're VERY excited to head there again. |
Rottnest Island, one of my favourite places on earth. Sandy beaches, turquoise bays, and the company of good friends who have come to farewell us on our adventure.
Preceding the smooth sail to this delightful destination was frantic last-minute packing, with three rooms still to pack on the day of departure. Sure, I've had six months in which to pack prepare, and in another life this may very well happen. I'm not ruling it out just yet.
After a warm farewell from family, Colin piped us out of the marina (see movie) and the journey began. Mum had made rolls for our lunch. How did she know? Thank goodness for mothers' intuition. Not only were they much needed, but they were bloody delicious! Looking inside I found prawns, broccoli, and Chinese cabbage. I was curious as to how Mum came up with such a winning combination, and she divulged she used leftovers from a take-away they had a couple of nights ago. Clever Mum. I think she’s onto something!
Arriving in Thomson Bay at 1445hrs we pulled up near the army jetty, and our friends Deb and Geoff, arriving shortly afterwards on Tilt, picked up the mooring next to us. We had an early dinner at the pub with the usual suspects (quokkas and peacocks) and were back on our boats before 2000hrs, ready to crash after a tiring day.
Heartwarmers at Rottnest:
- Finding a partner in crime with whom to devour a vanilla slice (yes, that's you Deb)
- Devouring said slice overlooking Thomson Bay
- Receiving adorable photos from my sister of the "grandchickens" (welcome to the wonderful world of mad chicken ladies Kath)
- Farewell wishes from our friends, sharing a last meal, and being sent off with delectable cinnamon biscuits for the journey
- Geoff waving us off in the morning
