Shark Bay (return), Sept 4 - 11
Denham, Sept 4 - 9 170nm, 43.5hr sail
We set sail from Mauds Landing at 5pm Tuesday and encounter all sorts of conditions - calm sunset, rough day sail, lightening and rain in the wee small hours - but eventually get to Denham at 12.30pm Thursday. That afternoon we encounter a glass off so quiet it's eerie…water like a millpond and we can hear dugongs breathing as they break the surface. Turns out it was the calm before the storm. We got one fine day where we were able to get fuel and provisions then the wind picked up, and by Sunday all hell was breaking loose and we ended up dragging on the anchor! Luckily we were able to pick up a mooring belonging to ACRM Base. Just off the channel it was deep enough, but we only had 0.6m under the keel. Still, it's a soft bottom if we were to hit…
Quoin Bluff South, Sept 9 - 10 20nm, 4.5hr sail
We are keen to return to this place we enjoyed so much on the way North, but the conditions are not quite as perfect as they were then. However, we do get a nice Spanish Mackerel on the way over!!
Gerritsen Cove Sept, 10 - 11 18nm, 4.5hr sail
We leave Quoin Bluff early as it's grey and windy and doesn't look very enticing for exploring. We trawl during the sail south, and after throwing back a few fish that Colin thinks are undersized Spanish Macks I check the fish guide and discover we've been throwing back sized "School Mackerel" for the last two days!! (Spaniards have to be 90cm, Schoolies only 50cm). Needless to say we kept the next one.
