We’re finally off cruising! Departing the jetty at 08:30 we motored the short distance to the private island of Nisís Koilada, out of the wind, to attach the jib. On our way again by 10:30 the wind changed our destination from Ermioni to Porto Cheli, where we anchored around 12:15 and resigned ourselves to staying the next couple of nights.
By way of elimination we convinced Zig we should eat at Salt and Pepper Restaurant where we had a delightful (and delicious) evening with our last guests of 2019, Maxine and Arnhem. As we paid the bill I showed the owner the photos of him with Colin and Arnhem from that night. He didn’t remember Colin but he remembered Arnhem. Really, who could forget him? His daughter, who had been our waitress, looked at the photo and commented “Look Poppy, you’re wearing the same shirt!” He was a bit disappointed that of all the delicious food on the menu Zig had ordered a pork chop, but Zig explained that he hadn’t been able to get a decent one his whole time in Paros.
We returned for dinner the following night and the waitress and I connected over music, the Sleaford Mods to be exact. Who would have thought? We exchanged information on interesting radio stations we listen to. I told her about RTRFM radio, Perth, and she told me about NTS Radio. I love encounters like that!

Free anchorage
Leaving Pórto Héli at 11:30 we headed west, closer to Póros, our final destination (for now). Pushing just past Ermioni we found an anchorage in this pleasant bay, with no doof-doof music coming from shore or loud boat parties. Lovely. Colin got the ol’ Magna Kettle BBQ and cooked up the fish. Without the bright lights of a town I was able to see bioluminescence in the water during that cooling dip I take before bed.
